The President of the European Hockey Federation, Marijke Fleuren has sent a letter of support to Catherine Martin T.D., Minister for Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht (Ireland) in support of Connacht Hockey's ‘Misneach Le Cheile’ (Courage Together) campaign that seeks to address the lack of suitable playing pitches for hockey in the region. The EHF understands the shortage of suitable facilities (2g) to play the sport is preventing them from developing all aspects of the game in the region.
Marijke said "We are extremely proud of the work being done by Hockey Ireland and its regions and the success of both the men and women’s hockey teams on the world stage in recent years has clearly had an impact on the interest of playing hockey in Ireland. In our hockey world Hockey Ireland has a history of equally sharing the growth of the sport for the genders and we are happy to support this campaign to ensure that everyone in Ireland, no matter where they live can have access to our brilliant sport. We hope that the support of the EHF will help Hockey Ireland and Connacht Hockey to secure a strategic plan that delivers stable, long-term training facilities in the region.
The very best of luck to Kevin, Ais and their team in their mission."
